Les Trouvères, Toronto - Hosts

Les Trouvères is, of course, the celebrated Victorian touring company. Seen throughout the capitals of Europe, the great ones have now fallen on hard times and are reduced to singing for their supper in Dufferin Grove Park. But never fear, the famous actress Madame, and her sly assistant Doyenne (with poodle) will reprise their roles as audience hosts from last year.

Urban Spine, Toronto - Nurture

A dynamic theatre company dedicated to the creation of new plays since 1999. Urban Spine celebrates the beauty of our urban landscape with site specific stagings. Original and provocative, Urban Spine's plays challenge the boundaries of theatre using outdoor venues, large casts, highly visceral physicality, and incorporating original film and music. Past outdoor shows include the sold-out Sooz and Lie With Me, the award-winning script Run, the family swashbuckling favourite, Swordtales, and Theatre City, a tour of plays for Artsweek in the historical 401 Richmond building. Before Reality TV, Urban Spine was placing audience members in the reality of hypothetical worlds for a complete theatrical experience. Artistic director Victoria Goring took some years off producing to work on her production of raising her child single handedly.

Theatre Biscornu, Quebec - Rire Muet

This company explores strange worlds in which the body and sound occupy an essential place, inspired by the aesthetics of the grotesque, and influenced by German expressionist films, where the figure of the double and its opposite dominate. Le Théâtre Biscornu gives life to caricatural and grandiloquent characters.

A world without words, and the personification of several characters in every performance distinguish the peculiarity of this young company.

Located in Quebec, Canada, Le Théâtre Biscornu possesses a distinct curiosity, and generosity that continues to intrigue its audiences.

Satellite Theatre in association with Compagnie Houppz - Mouving

Founded in June 2004, under the initiative of Etienne Bayart and Mathieu Chouinard, the Houppz! Collective brought together young theatre artists from l'École Intenationale Jacques Lecoq with a shared passion to create theatre which is visual, comedic, poetic and lively. The greatest strength of the company is its international aspect, allowing an artistic and personal intercultural exchange in an open, respectful and honest context. Through movement, Compagnie Houppz! seeks expressions of humanity that push the boundaries of culture and speak a language accessible to all.
