Weekly Market Notes for January 05, 2012

Hello Market Friends:

I'm still wiping holiday crumbs from my chin, but healthy eating sounds just right for January. Happily, we'll have quite a full house this week, filling up the rinkhouse and garage. If you see anyone who looks like a market newcomer, please point them in the direction of the other end of the building; many think there's only one roomful of vendors. Thanks to all skaters for your patience while we share the facilities.

Sosnickis' news: "Happy New Year to all! Ben will be coming with lots of our own homegrown still! Beautiful bunches of Leeks, Huge Red and Green Cabbages, Celeriac, Red Gold Potatoes, Fingerlings and Russian Blue Potatoes, Garlic; Perogies of all kinds (including Spelt dough!), frozen Sweet Corn, Cabbage Rolls too! Eat well, stay warm!" Jessie and Ben

"A Happy New Year to all at Dufferin Grove, and a big thank you for supporting the market and us for all these years. Still lots of roots from Greenfields: sweet Carrots, red and golden Beets, Sunchokes, Rutabagas, Celeriac, Leeks, Shallots and Garlic. Also lots of winter squash this week: Pie Pumpkins, Delicata and Acorn. Time to stock up as things will start to run out! If the weather co-operates we'll cut some Kale in the morning as well." Lorenz

Ted Thorpe and Plan B will make sure there are produce choices both local and from farther fields to round out our growers' own.

Forbes Wild Foods and Best Baa will be absent this time; Colette (Urban Harvest) and Alli's Bakery will be off for the month.

Beretta Farms returns with a full selection of meats. Growing Spaces and DeFloured will be back, too, along with all our other winter regulars.

See you at the market!

Anne Freeman
