Wading Pool Dates Summer 2008!

posted April 24, 2008

The wading pool opened officially on Thursday June 26th, and closed on August 31.

As in years past, when the weather was very hot (over 28 degrees consistently) recreation staff tried to keep the wading pool open. During the summer of 2008, that happened only twice!

Water Play

posted April 23, 2008

There is no swimming pool at Dufferin Grove park. However we have three kinds of water play available for kids.

  • Wading pool in the south east end of the park open on days hotter than 29 degrees from roughly May until September.

  • Sprinklers set out on hot days during the Farmer's Market and Pizza days

  • Sandpit Adventure Playground, which has a hose and tap hooked up in the shady; less sunny, south east end of the park.

Water is often thought to be a dangerous play material for children, we try to have play structures that minimize dangers and encourage adult supervision. At some ages, some children are not aware of the dangers of water, which requires attentive and aware adults. Quickly though most children find water a wonderful play material for floating things, a little splashing, the gentle pleasant feeling of water, currents, rivers, waterfalls and fountains.
