Weekly Market Notes for Autgust 30, 2007

Hello Market Friends:

With Labour Day weekend fast approaching, be sure to stop in at the market to pick up some fresh bounty for holiday feasting. And now´s the time to find some healthy treats to pack in lunches for the kids returning to school—and for all of us, as we prepare for the crisp fall weather.

From Greenfields farm:

This week is a beautiful taste of the fall bounty to come! The greens are doing great- both Rainbow and Green Kale, Gold and Red Chard, huge Collards, and bunched Golden and Red Beets with fresh green tops. We'll have tons of Basil plants perfect for garnishing all those amazing heirlooms, or making pesto. Lots of sweet saladette tomatoes for snacking on fresh or throwing in the BBQ with ripe Green Peppers and Eggplant! Onion City- large Red bunched, Purple Scallions, and Yellow Spanish varieties are all nice fresh or sauteed. Plenty of herbs to go around. Those sweet Torpedo Cabbages are back, perfect for a cool 'Slaw on a hot day like today! The absolute last basket of our Garlic for the season, so make a race for the table! See you there.

From Irene of Deer Valley Venison Farm:

I will have a great selection of cuts fresh venison available for August 30th I including, steaks, tenderloin, striploin, top sirloin, eye of round, sirloin tip roast, stewing cubes and ground & liver. Any special request can be made to: www.venison.ca order@venison.ca

From Plan B:

We’ll be bringing lots of food in again this week. Tons of salad mix, greens and tomatoes, grapes and likely apples, plus some other goodies. At Anne’s request, Shane and Julia, who’s farm is called; “under ground organics”, are going to have a separate table for the flowers so that they will stand out more on their own. They’ll be bringing lots of sunflowers and mixed bouquets.

See you there.

See you at the market!
Anna
