Weekly Market Notes for December 18, 2014

The first market of 2015 will be January 8th.

Hello Market Friends:

To all the vendors and customers who made it to market last week, three cheers for your good cheer! Never thought of the little street where we load in and out as a challenging slope to drive up, but we learned that it's smart to park facing downhill on snowy days. Thanks to the anonymous, talented driver who succeeded in getting the last stuck vendor van out!

Much easier weather is in the forecast, and we will have full tables all-round, in the rinkhouse, garage and under our big tents. Richard Underhill has offered to come by and play some swingin' holiday tunes with his drummer pal Bob, so please come celebrate the approaching solstice with us, and enjoy some market merriment before we take a break until the new year.

News from the Vendors:

Ted Thorpe says that due to the mild turn in the weather he'll have abundant fresh spinach and field kale.

"Smoked fish is done and we hope to have fresh or frozen fish for market." Natasha and Andrew Akiwenzie

"Hi all, this will be our last Dufferin Grove Market until March. Contrary to popular opinion, we are not going to be lying on a beach on the Mediterranean (boo hoo) but we are very busy packing seeds and preparing for the 2015 seedy season. We will miss you.

All of our seeds will be on sale this week. They make great affordable and practical gifts. We will also be bringing lots of body care products Including 7 different varieties of soap. These make great stocking stuffers and hostess/host gifts. See you for some holiday cheer." Colette and Pablo - Urban Harvest and Earthly Paradise

This will also be the last week for several other vendors 'til early spring, including our VQA wineries. Of course, wine will keep-- if you let it-- so now's your chance to get a little extra. Frogpond Farm will be coming.

From DeFloured: "This week we will have mince meat, individual tourtieres, assorted tartlets -- and all the regular stuff." Krista and Chris

Lovely sparkling jars of preserves will be lined up for you to choose from on Spade & Spoon's tables. If you're having tourtiere (or mac & cheese, or beans, or toast...) I highly recommend the Sweet and Spicy Ketchup!

Forbes Wild Foods says 'think wild for Christmas'. Nuts and maple sugar shapes and wild rice fit very nicely into stockings....

Wishing you and yours peace, joy and good health.

See you at the market!

Anne Freeman
