Weekly Market Notes for December 23, 2008

Hello Market Friends:

Don't forget our special holiday schedule! We'll have a market this Tuesday, December 23rd, from 3-7 pm, and then we'll take a break until January 8th.

Though the weather outside may be frightful, a delightful crew of our vendors will be making the trek to be sure you have a full pantry until they return. We'll all be inside this week, as we won't have quite such a gang as last time. We hope you'll join us, and thank the farmers and vendors for coming to feed us. Lots of great food, and excellent last-minute gift ideas if you're working on that. Here's some news:

"Time to stock up for the Holidays. Greenfields sweet Carrots, Ontario Parsnips, Sweet Potatoes, Rutabaga and Winter Squash are all standard festive fare. Try adding our Black Radish to your salads or add some Sunchokes/Celeraic to your Potato dish for a little something extra! Ontario Red Beets, Garlic and Shiitake Mushrooms will be here as well. A good selection of Greens this week; Red Chard, Black and Green Kale, Red Leaf Lettuce, Romaine, Parsley and Spinach. Avocados, Banana, Lemons, Bosc Pear, Clementines and delicious Navel Oranges are sure to bring some holiday cheer! Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year!!" Mark

Ralph Robitaille of Pineapple Orchards has sold out of apples now, so we won't see him until the first ones ripen next summer. Thanks for showing him a warm Dufferin welcome; he commented frequently on how loyal our customers are. Luckily, Alvaro Venturelli of Plan B has arranged for a special delivery of Bousfields cider for this market. The supply has been very limited this season so don't miss out--this week only!

No Fun Guy mushrooms, Deer Valley venison, Chocosol, or Berettas meat this week.

Plenty of baking from Alli and the Park Bakers, special fruitcake from Maria S., treats from Raymonde, fresh sprouts from Duane, perogies, sauerkraut and cabbage rolls from Sosnickis, honey from Bees Universe, and much more.

Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday.

See you at the market!

Anne

P.S. Come by the rinkhouse or the market for a special price on our calendars!
