Weekly Market Notes for December 6, 2007

Hello Market Friends:

Despite the deep-freeze, we still have a capacity crowd of vendors in the market tents. It has been a little more challenging this "fall" than in previous years, but we're making it work. The icicle lights donated by Ute Zell and the good spirits help. Since we've been finding it necessary to position some vendors a little differently each week, do be sure to complete the full circuit through the rinkhouse, garage and tent arcade. Here's the news from the vendors:

From Monika at Greenfields:
What a beautiful sight the Green and Purple Kale is sticking out from the blanket of snow that has covered the fields! We could only see the tops of the plants, but managed to pull quite a harvest nonetheless. This week we will be selling the Kale as whole or half-plants- so bring an extra bag for their full-form! Lots of sweet Lutz Beets- don't let their big size fool you. This variety stores very well and has intense flavour great for roasting and boiling. Lots of our own Sunchokes, Celeriac, Parsnips, Rutabaga, Squash and baskets of sweet Carrots. There will be local apples as well as a bountiful selection of fruits and lettuce. Our new 'Greenfields' organic cotton bags make a nice Holiday gift stuffed with healthy lifestyle items (or root veggies)!

On Special from Beretta: Braising Ribs, Marrow Bones, Sausages, Hanger Steaks.

From the Akiwenzies: "We won't be down this Thursday. The wind is still blowing and the water is all stirred up. We luckily didn't get as much snow as other places but we got our fair share. Boys love it though and they have been skiing. They are looking forward to coming down to Dufferin over the x-mas break."

From Irene ~ Deer Valley Venison Farm: "In order to help us serve you best for the holiday season…please place reservations for fresh venison on or before Dec. 9th if possible. We will have fresh venison available on a first come first served basis afterwards…but would like to be sure to meet any specific requests for your holiday celebrations. We are available to discuss your wishes at the market, by telephone: 519-928-5618, or email us: order@venison.ca Thank you."

Tim Clement will be back, and has promised to cook something special. Maria of Oh Soy returns too.

Excellent ice, excellent food, come to the skaters' market!
