Weekly Market Notes for February 19, 2015

Hello Market Friends:

I will admit that the après (ski, toboggan, skate) part of winter activity is often my favourite, when the time comes to bring out the warming food and drink. Whatever you're up to, hold onto your good cheer with ChocoSol drinking chocolate, Bees Universe honey for tea and toast, all the makings of hearty stews from Marvellous Edibles, lazy-day soups from Spade & Spoon, tasty baking from DeFloured, and all-round-healthy market eating.

All the vendors will be inside this week, and several have specials, another reason to be cheerful! If it's windy, we sometimes need to close the big garage door at the south end and use the east, rinkside door instead, to keep the warmth in. That makes it hard to see who's in there upon arrival, but we promise that there are friendly people and good things to eat inside, so do be sure to visit both ends of the market.

From Forbes Wild Foods: "We're having a winter special on some of our items - jars of our Wild Rose Jelly (190ml) and Wild Jellied Sumac (500ml) will both be $5! Seth is away but Ruvena is excited to fill in again."

"Earth + City is bringing our delicious black beans burgers to the market this week. They make a wonderful and hearty lunch - good for up to two days wrapped in the fridge! The patties are made with organic black beans + rice, and topped with our house-made ketchup, local cabbage slaw and local pickled onions. Come by and grab one (or two!)"

Beretta's February specials continue! Lots of options for meat-eater's treats:

  • Organic Bone In Chicken Breast, regularly $21.44/kg, on for $17.15/kg
  • Organic Lean Ground Beef, regularly $16.00/kg, on for $14.40/kg
  • Organic Pork Breakfast Sausage, regularly $6.99/each, on for $5.99/each
  • Organic Tenderloin Steak, regularly $81.68/kg, on for $61.26/kg
  • Beretta Reserve Boneless Pork Shoulder Roast, regularly $24.05/kg, on for $23.25/kg
  • Organic Lean Stewing Beef, regularly $27.35/kg, on for $25.35/kg

Ming from Ying Ying Soy will be absent as he's taking the day off to enjoy Chinese New Year with his family. Happy New Year, Ming, and everyone else who is celebrating this week!

Be sure to mark us on your calendar for next Thursday (February 26th). We're joining 13 other year-round farmers' markets throughout the region in celebrating the 10th anniversary of Ontario's Greenbelt. We'll be treating visitors to free tastes of Greenbelt-grown foods throughout the market and it's going to be DELICIOUS.

See you at the market!
