Weekly Market Notes for November 11, 2010

Birthday Edition
Hello Market Friends:

So how old do you think we are? Sometimes I hear people talk about the market as though it has been here forever. It's true that we are getting to be quite senior in a field of younger markets (there are 30 farmers' markets in TO now, and half have opened in the last five years), but actually, our ripe old age is just 8. Happy Birthday to Us! Mary and Yo from the park are working on a very big batch of market birthday cake (vegan, carrot, delicious) and we hope you can make it in time to have a celebratory taste, on the house.

This will be the final week of the year setting up on the rinkpad. By the time of next week's market, the rink will be in the process of transformation into shiny new ice, with the help of diligent flooding and compressors, and we'll move the market partly indoors, partly along the west side of the buildings.
Here's the news from the vendors:

From the Sosnickis: "Ben will have tubs of our farm's first raw Sauerkraut!! I'll send him with some frozen Green Beans, too. He'll also be loaded with storage crops such as potatoes, carrots, beets, onions, cabbage, squash, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, **still peppers too! Celeriac and greens still in the field! Heirloom tomatoes still going in the cold frames! Enjoy the market's bounty. We got our organic soybeans combined yesterday, so Ben is sleeping well!"
