Weekly Market Notes for November 24, 2011

Hello Market Friends:

Welcome to Skate & Shop season, when you can work up an appetite with a few twirls on the ice before stocking up on your favourite market goodies. Our first indoor-outdoor setup worked out very well last week, with enough room and enough food for all. Wondering what's good to eat right now? Here's my current list of fantastic fall flavour combinations:

  • squash roasted with lots of thyme (Ted's bundles make everything tasty!),
  • marinated mushrooms with nuts,
  • brussels sprouts shredded with apple or fried with garlic,
  • soup stock sweetened with leeks and parsnip,
  • spicy pumpkin pie with cider,
  • dark fall greens with the bright crunch of carrots,
  • Blythe's rosemary apple jelly with cheese,

and I could go on and on!

Sosnickis' contribution: Ben will be bringing our Perogies, Frozen Sweet Corn, Cabbages, Potatoes, Celeriac, Leeks, still a few Peppers, Onions & Beets. I did a quick blog with a great recipe for Roasted Beet Hummus- it's Sooo good! I've been dipping Kind Organic's Kale Chips in it!!! www.sosnickiorganicproduce.blogspot.com Jess & Ben.

Forbes Wild Foods will be absent this week, and a reminder that Angelos is still harvesting olives in Greece (so look for fresh eggs from Bees Universe).

See you at the market!
