Job Title: Community Recreation Programmer
Salary/Rate: $35.84/hr - $39.26/hr
Hours of Work (bi-weekly): 80 hrs

Major Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Community Recreation, this employee will be responsible for recreational programs and services within a geographical or functional area. This includes positions within Afterschool Recreation Care (ARC), Aquatics, Adapted &Inclusive (A&I) and community centre operations.\\ The primary functions associated with this position include, but are not limited to:
-- Plans, organizes, implements, directs, evaluates, and promotes programs and activities (i.e., arts and crafts, social, cultural, fitness, sports, etc.) for all age groups
-- Consults and collaborates with community based groups, advisory councils, school boards, residents, elected officials, program participants, city staff and other stakeholders to maintain, create and enhance recreational opportunities and to coordinate the planning and delivery of services within the area|
-- Responds to the local demographic profile to ensure the reduction of barriers in recreation services to people who are homeless, isolated seniors, youth from at-risk neighbourhoods, low income families, people with a disability and other marginalized groups.
-- Recruits, selects, trains and participates in the evaluation of performance of part-time Recreation staff
-- Schedules and directs the activities of part-time staff and volunteer staff
-- Engages in staff and volunteer training re: Corporate/Divisional rules and regulations of Recreation Facilities, i.e. Health and Safety and Public Health Regulations
-- Ensures that staff possesses required certification (i.e. First Aid)
-- Evaluates facility attendance and program registration and recommends adjustments to Supervisor
-- Conducts inspections of facilities and operations monitoring the state of good repair and ensures facilities, programs, equipment and supplies are available and meet health and safety standards and that Division policies and procedures are adhered to by all staff and participants
-- Attends staff meetings to discuss policies, procedures, programming and planning
-- Resolves public complaints, responds to enquiries about Recreation programs and services
-- Prepares proposals for funding (grants and sponsorships)
-- Liaises with custodial staff regarding maintenance and cleanliness of Recreation Facilities
-- Ensures recreation programs and services are welcoming and inclusive
-- Supports the administration of the Welcome Policy for members of the community to ensure access to recreational programs
-- Keeps detailed records to maintain placement data, attendance figures and issues related to participation and/or divisional coordination
-- Administers CLASS modules, i.e. Facility Booking, Point of Sale, Registration, Program Maintenance and Report Printing
-- Performs administrative duties including: preparing pay entry for part-time staff for Supervisor approval, preparing requisitions and controlling inventory for equipment and materials and supplies, and data collection
-- Completes a variety of Parks, Forestry and Recreation and Corporate forms including Participant Incident /Accident reports, Recreation Action Plan, etc. and ensures follow-up
-- Prepares reports regarding special events, program registration, etc. -- Prepares promotional material (e.g. flyers) and submits program information for inclusion in brochure
-- Prepares and monitors budget for part-time staff, materials and supplies
-- Handles cash and issues receipts to program participants
-- Prepares bank deposits and delivers to bank; completes deposit summary form
-- Required to travel to multiple sites

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

1. Considerable experience developing, implementing, organizing and evaluating recreation programs and services for all age groups in the following areas: (a) Sports; (b) Arts & Heritage; (c) Cultural/Social activities; (d) Fitness & Wellness; (e) Adapted and Integration; (f) Camps & Playgrounds; (g) Skiing; (h) Skating; (i) Special Events; (j) After school Recreation Care; (k) Youth Services; (l) Older Adult; (m) Aquatics.
2. Post-secondary degree or diploma in Recreation and Leisure studies or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience 3. Considerable experience recruiting, interviewing, training and providing work direction to part time recreation staff and/or volunteers
4. Considerable experience in Community Development activities including working with various advisory councils, diverse community groups and related agencies to coordinate and facilitate the provision of services
5. Must possess a valid province of Ontario "G" Class Driver's License and have access to a personal vehicle

You must also have:

-- Ability to obtain certification in Parks and Recreation Ontario's Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD)
-- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including working shifts and weekends
-- Ability to prepare budgets and meet budget targets
-- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and Labour Relations legislation, Collective Agreements, corporate standards and policies -- Strong organizational, planning and administrative skills
-- Good verbal and written communication skills and program promotion skills
-- Proficiency in the use of current office and workplace technology and other computer applications relevant to the position
-- Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and problem solving skills to create and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, the public, and other agency personnel
-- Must currently possess a Standard First Aid Certificate
-- Applicants must have access to a vehicle on a daily basis
